The Process
After selecting the type of pen, the body material, or pen blank, must be chosen. The blank is cut to length and a hole of proper size drilled lengthwise through the blank. A brass tube is cemented inside the now hollow blank for reinforcement purposes and the blank is turned on a wood lathe to the proper shape and dimensions for the pen body. The outside diameter is crucial for proper fit and feel of the finished pen. Then the body is sanded and polished to remove all tool marks and finally sealed with a hard, clear protective coating. Finally the hardware is attached to the pen body and a pen is born.
